The Angel Inn at Hetton

Situation

A prestigious Michelin Star restaurant in North Yorkshire approached us with a unique brief to supply a complete joinery package. The restaurant was undergoing a major renovation to enhance its dining ambiance and functionality, as well as six bedrooms, while staying true to its cultural influences. The client wanted bespoke, high-quality joinery that reflected the restaurant’s refined style. The specific requests included designing and building built-in wardrobes, staircases, a custom bar area, and a feature wall that we were free to design the style to align with the restaurant’s branding. The challenge was to integrate modern functionality with the elegance of a Michelin Star restaurant, using only the finest materials, while ensuring that all elements were cohesive and met the Michelin-level standards of the restaurant.

Proposed Solution

Our task was to deliver four distinct areas of the restaurant through expert craftsmanship: Built-in Wardrobes for the bedrooms , ensuring ample storage while maintaining a sleek design. Staircase, blending seamlessly with the restaurant’s interior design. Bar Area, as a focal point where design and functionality had to work in perfect harmony. Feature Wall in the dining area, designed by ourselves, serving as an artistic statement that would enhance the dining experience. We manufactured all of the joinery, including the windows and doors, tables and fix seating, wardrobes, mirrors, floating shelves and the custom bar Each piece needed to meet the client’s high standards while reflecting the cultural sophistication of the restaurant.

How it Went!

We began by meeting the client to understand their vision for each area. Using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), we developed detailed visual plans for the client to approve, ensuring every detail reflected their expectations. Wardrobes: We crafted custom built-in wardrobes with smooth, sleek finishes, using premium wood to ensure both durability and elegance. The wardrobes were designed to be highly functional with hidden storage compartments while maintaining a minimalistic style that blended into the bedrooms. Staircase: For the staircase, we designed a modern, yet subtly traditional structure, combining dark wood and minimalist railings to ensure durability and elegance. The design ensured easy navigation while adding a stylish, understated feature to the space. Bar Area: The bar was designed as a key focal point, where both form and function were crucial. We used rich, textured wood combined, copper sheeting and contemporary design elements, ensuring that it stood out but also blended seamlessly with the overall restaurant theme. Feature Wall: The highlight of the project was the feature wall. Drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese architecture, we incorporated geometric wooden panels with soft, natural tones to create an elegant and serene atmosphere. This wall became a visual centrepiece that both complemented the dining area and reinforced the restaurant’s cultural identity.

Result

The final result exceeded the client’s expectations. The custom-built wardrobes blend in perfectly, providing ample storage space without disrupting the sleek design. The staircase became a seamless part of the interior, both functional and stylish. The bar area added sophistication to the restaurant while maintaining high functionality for the staff. The feature wall, in particular, received rave reviews from the restaurant’s patrons for its calming influence and cultural authenticity. The project was completed on time and within budget, and the Michelin Star restaurant continues to receive positive feedback from guests who appreciate the harmony between the joinery and the restaurant’s overall ambience. Our work helped elevate the dining experience by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
